I walk the land and try to pay attention. I follow old paths and new. Human paths, animal paths, and paths bound histories I don’t understand. I share these experiences in writing, visual art, and other mediums. In my writing and music I consider other-than-human viewpoints. I look for various methods of asserting that land is not merely soil, but rather a symbiosis of interdependent parts resulting in the gestalt we call the ecosystem. I also write backpacking-related essays including gear reviews.
If you don’t have a subscription to one of the magazines I write for but would still like to read my essays, or if you would just like to support the work that I do, consider signing up for The Overlook. You can sign up for free if you just want to receive links to my latest articles. But if you want to get exclusive essays, gear thoughts/reviews, musings, desert-specific how-tos, poems, photo essays, songs, and trip reports, the minimum is $5 per month or $50 a year. Thank you!
Note: I’m not currently charging paying subscribers because I took a fairly long break from writing and need to make it up to folks.
