This is gouache, charcoal, and acrylic on an 8”x11” panel. The sides are painted black, and it is ready to hang.

I haven’t painted in a while but I’m getting some ideas. Actually I’m just accepting that I don’t need ideas. I’ve always known this, but I’m coming back around to the fact that that’s ok. I don’t think I chose any of the marks on this panel, is what I mean. Anyway, I am attempting to represent the vastness in the distance as it is—not connected to the human or the self at all—just eternal. And the self in the foreground in the form of messy, childlike marks that make up the ghosts, the spectral signatures, the watermarks of existence. Both of these things are in communion. In particular, the repeated conversation is the anxious self reaching out to the landscape for some sort of comfort. This is an ongoing conversation so expect more of these as I refine the concept.
